Department Of English

Introduction

The Department of English established since the establishment of the college in the year 2017-18. In the same year English was introduced as the special subject. The Department aims to engage young minds in creative and analytical thinking through literary studies that can help students in building a holistic and healthier human community. To achieve this objective department gives space for students to discuss both local and global issues critically and creatively. The curricula are taught through discussion, assignments, text, reviews, power point presentation etc. Students are encouraged to express their views on the questions at issues in order to help them how to think and speak their hearts and minds. Timely various steps have been taken to develop the infrastructural facilities of the department. The department has its own library and Digital Language Lab of 11 computers fully equipped with audio-visual aids. The Department offers certificate course of Spoken English. It also runs Bridge and Remedial Course for slow and advanced learner students. These courses are designed mainly to train students in professional communication. At present there are four teachers in the department, who are actively engaged in various academic activities and consultancy, apart from the regular teaching activities.


National Education Policy-2020

Aims:

1) To promote the holistic development of students, focusing on their physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and ethical aspects.
2) To ensure quality education for all students, regardless of their socio-economic background.
3) To make education more relevant to the needs of the 21st century and prepare students for the future.
4) To make education more inclusive and accessible to all students, including those with disabilities

Objectives:

1) To provide high-quality education for all students.
2) To develop a new curriculum that is relevant, comprehensive, and flexible.
3) To reform the assessment system to focus on learning and development rather than rote memorization.
4) To integrate digital technology into education to enhance learning experiences.
5) To strengthen vocational education and skill development.
6) To improve the quality and accessibility of higher education among students.

Old Syllabus Aims/Objectives

1.To provide in depth knowledge of language and literary concepts.
2.To familiarize with contemporary and recent trends and advances in language and literature.
3.To improve language competence.
4.To introduce students to some advanced areas of language study.
5.To prepare students to go for detailed study and understanding of literature and language.
6.To develop critical thinking and ability to understand and analyze Criticism.
7.To study professional ethics and life values.
