Pravara Medical Trust (PMT), the parent organization of Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences, Deemed University, was founded in 1972 by Padmashri Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil. After the death of Padmashri Dr. Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil, his son, Shri. Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, continued this important work. Currently, Shri Balasaheb Vikhe Patil’s worthy son Dr. Rajendra Vikhe Patil continues this work. Since its inception, PMT has been providing quality services to the poor and disadvantaged people living in drought-prone areas.

PMT's vision is to improve the lives of rural people by making healthcare systems more effective and responsive to their needs. Its mission is to serve the rural population, especially the poor and marginalized, without regard to caste, creed, race, or religion.

Thanks to PMT's ongoing efforts, Loni, once a small village, has transformed into a lively township. This change is driven by the idea of “Think Globally, Act Locally.” Today, Loni is a model of quality healthcare for rural people and excellent training in medical and paramedical fields.

Over the years, PMT has established a strong medical education center. The institutions under PMT have been doing commendable work. The Pravara Rural Hospital, which started in 1976 with just 100 beds, has now grown into an 800-bed multi-disciplinary, super-specialty hospital. It also has extension outpatient departments (OPDs) and seven Rural Health Centers. Additionally, telemedicine services are available in 40 villages. The Pravara Rural Dental Hospital offers not only routine dental care but also services in various modern dental specialties.

PMT collaborates with several national and international organizations to improve teaching, medical care, and community health. The former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, praised PMT’s “Participative model of Integrated Rural Development,” calling it the “Loni Model of Integrated Development.” He encouraged other parts of the country to follow this example.
